Recommended Mobile E-SIM for Traveling in Europe
When traveling abroad, a SIM card is the first thing to prepare. Some people buy an international SIM card online in advance, while others rent a Wi-Fi device. Another option is to purchase a local SIM card upon arrival. Recently, e-SIMs that can be downloaded via an app have also become available.
Having so many options is great, but the downside is that it can be confusing to compare them all!
I have been living in Denmark and traveling around Europe, so I found the most cost-effective and convenient SIM plan for my needs. I want to introduce it here.
It is Lyca Mobile.
Lyca is a UK-based MVNO company. However, it operates in 20 European countries by leasing networks from local providers. It offers a local phone number, free international calls, prepaid plans, EU roaming data, and affordable prices, making it popular among travelers and students. Additionally, e-SIMs are free!
The application process is also simple. I will explain it based on Denmark.
1. Search for "Lyca Denmark" on Google and visit their website.
2. Check the mobile plans on the website.
In the Mobile Plan section, choose the plan that suits your needs.
Currently, for 9 Krone (less than $1.5 or around 2,000 KRW), you get:
- 30GB data for 30 days
- 9GB EU roaming data
- 15 hours of international calls
3. Make a payment
Choose e-SIM, but do not add Top-up.
Charging in advance is unnecessary, as you can recharge after 30 days.
Proceed with the payment.
4. Check your email
After payment, you will receive an email titled "Order Confirmation - Lycamobile SIM."
Open the email and activate your e-SIM immediately.
Last tip
Is there an app?
Unfortunately, Lycamobile only provides apps in Denmark and Spain.
It is better to use the website.
Can I buy a physical SIM card?
Like Lebara, Lycamobile SIM cards are sold in various supermarkets across Denmark.
You can buy one for 49 Krone.
